In 1962, NHRA first introduced the new class of A/FX, the factory experimental class. Ford built a single product model for A/FX competition. The 1962 Galaxie. Ford produced 11 cars and sold each car for $1.00. Only 4 of the A/FX cars have survived. The A/FX Galaxies received special components from the factory that included: fiberglass hood, fenders and trunk lid, aluminum bumper, inner fender aprons and radiator, steel factory headers, 406cid, 2x4's, radio and heater delete, 4-speed, paper-thin floor mat, body filler and sound deadener delete, door pulls delete, battery relocated to the trunk.
