Description
Lot #364 - Swallow Sidecar Company began building auto bodies in 1927 and introduced the SS-1 line in 1931. Engines, transmissions and chassis were built for Swallow by Standard of England to designs of Swallow. Special low-slung frames and swoopy bodies were the hallmark of these special sporty English cars. This 1935 SS-1 two door tourer convertible features a 2668 cc, 6 cylinder flathead, 7 main bearing engine, dual carbs, and 4-speed transmission. This car received a complete high dollar body-off restoration in Glenn Shaffer's shop. Only 78 of these cars were built and only 7 are known to exist today! (Note the license plate number.) The next year of production, this model would receive a new name - "Jaguar"! Shown only once after completion of the restoration, the car received "Best in Class" and "Best European Classic"!
