Description
Lot #698 - This is a factory original supercharged with a rumble seat. All numbers are correct. A nut and bolt professional restoration of this car was completed in fall 2003 by Cole's Classics. The car is painted an elegant rich Maroon, with a tan top and tan Connolly leather interior. Significant research and expense ensures details are correct. Motor, supercharger and transmission were rebuilt. Auburn supercharged the Lycoming 279 cubic inch straight-8 engine with a Schwitzer-Cummins supercharger increasing horsepower from 115 to 150. The transmission is a three-speed with Auburn's unique Dual-Ratio capability. The shift on the fly Dual-Ratio feature allows the driver to change from Low Ratio (4.5 to 1) to High Ratio (3 to 1) while driving at speeds up to 40mph. Gordon Buehrig created this car with a striking raked front end and radiator grill. There are only 13 of these supercharged cabriolets listed in the ACD member directory. This car represents one of the finest restorations of the 852 S/C Cabriolet. ATTENTION: this Auburn and the 1937 Cord (lot #697) were restored as a matched set of the last two supercharged cars of their era. Coloring, tops and interiors all match, providing an absolutely one-of-a-kind opportunity for the collector desiring an unparalleled showpiece.
