Description
Lot #1237 - The Lincoln Continental exists through the efforts of Edsel Ford and stylist Bob Gregorie. The Lincoln Continental was, in essence a custom built Zephyr. IT shared the latter 125 inch wheel base chassis (with hydraulic brakes) and its 75 degree V12 (292 cubic inches 120 horsepower). But the Continental was 3 inches lower, had 7 inches more hood and sported a "continental" tire at the back. Today, a lot of architects and designers are Lincoln Continental owners Frank Lloyd Wright owned several. This car was one of only 466 total (cabriolet and coupes) built in 1946. This car was first purchased new in San Francisco, California by the Argentine Embassy and used as a consulate car for 4 years. It was sold in 1950 to its second owner, a mechanical engineer who kept it for 53 years. In an effort to increase performance, he installed dual carburetors and mallory coils. He also added custom wheel covers and chrome spare tire cover. The original upholstery was coverd with clear plastic in 1950 and still looks as new as it did when it came from the factory. When I purchased the car in Jan. '04, it had bot been registered for 15 years. The 2nd owners's widow, who sold the car, swears the 8,000 miles on the odometer are actual as the car was stored most of the 53 years they owned it. Original fender skirts included.
