Lot #1043 - In the magazine "Classic Trucks", Jeremy Cook published a history on the truck. Scotty Gray and Boyd Coddington collaborated on the truck after Scotty spied it at Boyd's shop. The truck had been purchased at a swap meet with the majority of the chassis completed. It has a 1970 stock 429 engine with an RV cam that furnishes power through an automatic C6 Ford transmission to a Ford 9" rear end with 3.00:1 gear. It also has a Mustang II cross member and front suspension with 11" GM disc brakes up front. Air lift airbags were connected with an on board compressor. 3" dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers were supplied. Boyd eliminated the bumper and built the bed from boxed 2x4" aluminum. The bed has recently been replaced with IPE wood. A center canvas cover with Boyd's emblem covers the center deck opening hiding a goose-neck trailer hitch. Clear windows in the canvas cover allow '39 Ford tail lights to shine through. The front sports a custom Boyd grille and mirrors and, of course, Boyd Coddington custom wheels. One of Boyd's long time supplier's, Gabe Lopez, supplied the custom red leather in the interior to the doors, seats and roof. To add to the display, a custom midget racer is included. It does have a 2 stroke engine but is for display only as it lacks a gas tank.
