Description
Lot #735 - An exciting example of a rare sports touring car (less than 50 were built and less than 15 Gran Sports are known to remain). Designed and built for Siata by Stabilimente Farina and is the last steel bodied "SL" Gran Sport built. It is Coach # 9799. Purchased new in Italy, sans engine and drivetrain, by an American serviceman and imported to the U.S. (California) where in 1955 a new 265cid Chevy V8 and three-speed were installed. It was purported to be the only hood actually louvered at the factory in anticipation of the powerful V8. The car was refitted in the early 1960's with an updated 327cid Corvette V8 and four-speed. Sold in 1972 to a gentleman in Seattle who has owned it for 32 years and put less than 1000 miles on it. Most of those years were spent upgrading the suspension and drive train to accommodate the power of the 327cid V-8.
