Description
Lot #942 - Chevrolet's 1956 Glamour pickup designed by the legendary Chuck Jordan of Corvette fame, left no question in the light truck buyer's mind as to who was the leader in pickup styling and design. Factory fiberglass rear quarter panels and tailgate skin were produced by the same manufacturers of the Corvette body and were incorporated into the Cameo to reduce tooling time required by the use of steel panels, enabling Chevrolet to place the Cameo on the market relatively quickly. The Cameo's purpose in design was to be viewed as a product that could be made sporty, luxurious, and meant to be driven into town and be seen. This particular example is one of 1,452 total units produced in 1956 and has undergone a photo documented, comprehensive, and correct body-off restoration to original specifications and a very high standard. This 1956 Cameo retains its factory original, correctly rebuilt 265 cid V8 engine and factory original 4-speed Hydramatic. Production figures are unknown as to how few Cameos were equipped with this drivetrain combination. Surviving, unmodified, matching numbers Cameo Carriers with the original V8 drivetrain are experiencing a rapid rate of appreciation amongst aficionados, as Chevrolet's Cameo is considered to be one of the most highly coveted American trucks ever produced.
