Lot #1352 1956 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE "SERIAL ONE"
Lot #1352 - This 1956 Corvette VIN #001 is the first production Corvette ever equipped with Chevrolet's V8 dual 4-barrel configuration. It is also the first production power convertible top Corvette, the first production power window Corvette and the first production Corvette to be fitted with two tops. This fully optioned assembly-line prototype received a professional frame-off nut-and-bolt restoration using all date-code and number-correct components, resulting in an NCRS Top Flight at a Chapter meet with a net score of 99.5 in 2008. Features include a 265ci V8 with 3-speed manual transmission as well as a unique color combination of Venetian Red with Polo White coves and solid red interior (including the dash). The unique features include a pre-production prototype body sculptured in the Chevrolet Design Studio. Several of the panels are actually hand-laid, because the press-molded production panels were not ready. It is the only 1956 production body known to be built without the fender scoops. The engine in this car, the first dual 4-barrel production engine, is rated at 225hp with a special solid-lifter "Duntov 098" camshaft. Complete and correct in every detail with proper early components and date codes, and an award-winning restoration, this Corvette is a recipient of the highest recognition from the organization that has set and maintained the standards for the state-of-the-art restoration accuracy.
