Description
Lot #665.2 - When Chevrolet introduced the new Corvette in 1953, the car was a two-seater, but it just wasn't a sports car. But in 1955 the new V8 engine improved the character of the car. By 1957, the cars were available with simply awesome power for the time! An engineer at the Chevrolet Division named Zora Arkus-Duntov would make a factory hot rod out of the basic bread and butter small block Chevy engine. Using a high lift, long duration, solid lifter camshaft, redesigned cylinder heads and two four-barrel carburetors the resulting power was unmatched in 1957. This car features the Duntov engine, an early 4-speed transmission, and RPO 684 competition suspension package with stiffer front and rear springs, a larger front stabilizer bar, firmer shocks, fast ratio steering linkage, a limited slip differential and ceramic-metallic brake linings. Faster in most ranges and rarer than the fuel-injected car, only a few hundred cars are believed to have been built with these specifications. This car has run in the California 1000 mille in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.
