Lot #434 - The Willys Jeep station wagon is generally considered the "Godfather" of all SUV's with its roots tracing all the way back to 1946. The final chapter of the first SUV ends in 1963 with the final Willys station wagons being built before parent company, Kaiser-Jeep, officially killed the brand for good after the introduction of their own Jeep Wagoneer. 1962 Willys wagons are desirable for being so close to the end of the run, but also because 1962 was the final year for the bulletproof super hurricane straight 6. The new Jeep Tornado 6 was used in 1963, but it was notoriously unreliable and excessively complicated, especially in such a rugged, go anywhere machine. This Willys wagon is a great example that has been well cared for over the years. The paint was refreshed along the way in its original plantation white and the engine has been rebuilt along with other regular maintenance. The interior remains largely original with the original tachometer, folding rear seats, inside mounted spare tire and period accessory seat belts. The miles are actual at 41,757.
