Description

Lot #782 - Presenting a beautiful example of a 1965 Plymouth Satellite "Golden Commando #6" re-creation. This is truly a one-of-kind classic car that represents true Chrysler drag race history. The Golden Commando club was conceived in 1962 by a small group of technicians, mechanics and engineers from Chrysler Corporation. The initial group grew to 13, each individual a specialist in a given area of expertise. Over the next few years they became drag racing legends and their memorabilia is currently displayed in the W.P. Chrysler Museum. This is an original Commando V8 car with the original sheet metal. The original Broadcast Sheet is included. It was built to re-create car #6 and is painted white with all the correct decals. These decals are not available and had to be custom made by well-known Randy Pomfret. The car went through a complete restoration and everything was restored or replaced. The car sits on new chrome Cragar 15" wheels that give it a very nostalgic look. The exterior is complimented with a great looking black interior with red accents throughout. The plain dash, bucket seats and Hurst pistol-grip shifter take you back to the drag racing days. The engine compartment is highly detailed and has a smoothed firewall. It houses the built 440cid engine with Wedge heads and Max Wedge intake with two carburetors. The engine compartment has many upgrades including a Fireball ignition system and Optima battery. It breathes through ceramic coated headers and custom exhaust with electric cutouts for better performance and sound. It is cooled with a factory radiator and runs cool. The engine is coupled with a HEMI 4-speed with Center Force clutch and an 8 3/4" posi-traction rear end with 3.91 gears. The trunk compartment is nicely detailed. The undercarriage is also nicely detailed. The frame was tied for extra strength. It has all new SS springs and suspension components. The brakes were converted to disc with the MP brake kit and they stop excellent.
