Lot #1031 - Chevrolet scored a major marketing coup when the new Camaro was chosen to pace the 1967 Indianapolis 500. Four Ermine white 396 convertibles were specially prepared for duty on race day at the Brickyard and 100 replicas were built for use by race officials and VIPs in the month preceding the 500 and then later sold to the public as used vehicles. While drivetrains and options varied, all were painted Ermine White with bright blue Z87 custom interiors and white softtops and bore the famous "Official Pace Car" body side decals. It bears the original correctly dated and coded Trim Tag denoting the build date, special 4-digit fleet number and special C1 paint code exclusive to the Pace Car. Its matching numbers 350/295hp engine, factory 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, rally wheels with redline radial tires, AM radio and power top make this a particularly desirable example of the first Camaro Indy Pace Car. Jerry MacNeish certified in 2013.
