Description

Lot #733 - This is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 prototype SCCA Trans-Am factory race car. It is car #17 of 25 prototype cars built by Chevrolet. This particular car was delivered to Heinrich Chevrolet in Rochester New York to be driven by Gary Morgan in the SCCA Trans-Am series. Gary raced this car from 1967-1969. His highly successful campagn amassed 11 first places 2 second places and numerous track records in A sedan. Through the efforts of Brock Yates, Gulf Oil and Gary Morgan teamed up, and this car became the famous Gulf Oil car which was used in Gulf Oil commercials aired on T.V. from 1967-1969 on Walt Disney World, the political convention and 7 times during the Lunar Landing when man first landed on the moon. This particular car is equipped with one of the very first factory "Cross-Ram" intake manifolds and the ultra rare cowl plenum induction system. It is believed to be the only prototype car in existence that has retained its original numbers matching 302 engine, which is included in the sale today. This car also has its original 12 bolt rear end with factory 4 wheel disc brakes and its original suspension and has been meticulously restored to its Trans-Am racing days.
