Description
Lot #698 - Chassis #1059 was produced on December 23, 1966 at Slough, England and then shipped to Ford's Kar Kraft facilities in Dearborn, MI., for final detailing. It was then sold to Stark-Hickey Ford in Detroit as part of a consortium of several urban Ford dealers to build showroom traffic with Henry Ford II's philosophy of " Win on Sunday, sell on Monday " ( which worked marvelously well, incidentally ).--- this is one of very few " road versions " to be equipped with Weber 48-IDA down draft carbs instead of a single Holley 4 barrel and has a factory hp rating of 390 hp instead of 325 hp. This particular GT 40P MK I road car has been featured in many books by noted GT40 experts: Ronnie Spain, John Allen, David Hodges and several other prominent international authors. After buying the car from Herbert Wetson of Long Island, NY in September 1973 it was driven 1,100 miles to Iowa, and then had some re-glassing and respraying of the tail section done. The original Goodyear gold line tires are still mounted on the original Borrani wheels. This car participated in the GT 40 reunion at Elkhart Lake, WI in 1996. Ronnie Spain inspected the car in 1996 and declared it " the most original GT 40 " that he had ever seen. Several GT 40 owners have used #1059 to confirm details of originality on their vehicles. Complete documentation comes with this remarkable 4,501 mile piece of automotive history.
