Lot #701 - A mid-year introduction of the 440 6 barrel Road Runner. It was designed to bridge the gap between the 383cid V8 and the much more costly 426 HEMI. This was a complete package which included a flat black fiberglass hood (held in place by four hood pins), automatic transmission, 4.10 rear axle ratio in a DANA 9 3/4" rear with Sure-Grip, 15x6 flat black painted wheels and a special version of the 440cid V8 rated at 390hp. The 6 barrel 440 came with three 2 barrel carburetors mounted on an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold. Total CFM rating was 1,300, however it was a very streetable system. The engine ran on the center carburetor most of the time, only when the accelerator pedal was floored would the two outboard carburetors make their contribution. The 440 6 barrel also got some internal modifications. The rocker arms were specially selected, a low taper camshaft with flat faced tappets for improved durability was used, special valve springs, chrome plated valves stems and molybdenum filled top piston rings were all part of the package. In addition, the 6 barrel got a dual-point distributor and viscous drive fan with heavy duty cooling. Wheels on the Road Runner were plain 15x6" steel wheels painted flat black with G700x15 fiberglass belted Red Streak tires. Chrome lug nuts gave the plain wheels some life. Color availability on the Road Runner was limited to just five, Performance Red, Bahamas Yellow, Rallye Green, Vitamin C Orange and White. Original Window Sticker, Broadcast Sheet, buyer's order, owner's manual and Fender Tag. 17,000 original miles.
