Lot #181 - 1978 XLH Sportster 1000cc built by Harley-Davidsons research and development department with a number of non production parts such as a 16 inch rear cast wheel and drum brake. The first cast wheel and front dual disc brakes and the last original frame sportsters. The multi-toned candy and hand painted pinstripe paint, applied by Harley-Davidson custom paint department, is also a non-production color and design. Built for promotional purposes not intended for sale. It is rare for one to leave R&D department into the hands of the public. But after Eagle Iron Accessory production ended in 1995 it was sold with the certificate of origin. This motorcycle has never been serviced with gasoline, oil or acid in the battery. The 5 miles on the odometer are from pushing it around locations for promo shots, featured in many prominent magazine are full page color pictures of this individual Harley-Davidson.
