Lot #1119 - In the late 1990s Carroll Shelby decided to build a sports car from scratch. In years past, the Shelbys that built his legendary status as an automotive icon were all improvements to an existing design. These included the AC Ace (which became the Shelby Cobra), the Ford Mustang (which morphed into the Shelby GT350) and modifications of various Chrysler products like the GLH, among others. Carroll Shelby had never built a performance car from the ground up, until he designed the 1999 Shelby Cobra Series 1. It was the street car of which he was most proud and the only car he had a hand in designing with no constraints. The end result is a beautiful, limited-edition, performance Shelby with acceleration and handling that testifies to his legacy as one of the greatest car builders that ever lived. This Shelby is a rare supercharged version with a quarter-mile time of 11.35 seconds at 124 mph and a 0-60 time of only 3.2 seconds. With its aluminum high-strength chassis and a carbon fiber body, it was designed by Carroll Shelby as a race car for street use. It has all power options, air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD stereo. There were 249 Shelby Series 1 automobiles produced. Only 50 of them were supercharged, and this is one of them. It is powered by an Oldsmobile 4.0 Liter Aurora V8 that produces 550hp and has a 6-speed manual transmission. This car is in great condition with only 1,450 actual miles from new.
