Lot #1587.1 - The Bentley gravity racing team has probably the best credentials in the sport having competed for 5 seasons at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, winning awards against celubrious competition like, McLaren, Lotus & Rolls Royce. The stressed carbon fibre monocoque has state of the art race car features with fully independent push rod suspension combined with a package offering 50:50 weight split in a very, very low drag yet open wheeled design. This racer set the pace at Jack's Peak drive, until breaking a rear axle on a road marker at the finishing line, which brought a close to the Bentley challenge. Gravity racing has been a creative outlet for the Bentley Design and Concepts team embracing new technologies whilst at the same time enhancing the skills and knowledge and teamwork of the yearly engineering graduate intake.
This design exhibits a technological breakthrough in composite paneling, the patented metal skin approach was an innovation for Bentley's future in coach-building and is likely application for the next generation of composite air-frames.
