Rick Hendrick is best known for his NASCAR championships and Nextel Cup Series victories as the owner of Hendrick Motorsports. In 1996, his winning ways broadened beyond the Winner's Circle when he became a champion for people facing life-threatening diseases that can be treated with a bone marrow transplant. That was the year the popular NASCAR team owner became a leukemia survivor. After his 1996 leukemia diagnosis, Hendrick quickly realized the urgent need for more donors on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry. He decided to use his diagnosis and make a difference in the lives of others. Today, the Hendrick Marrow Program helps secure private resources to support the NMDP's critical work.
