Details

this ford 300 tudor sedan began life as a georgia highway patrol car, an unmarked unit that had only a drivers side spotlight. the 427 single overhead cam engine is still the most awesome ford motors ever built. every motor was built and run on the dynamometer at holman moody in charlotte, north carolina and right out of the crate in stock form with a single 4 barrel carburetor produced 616 horsepower. engines with dual quad induction were rated at 657 horsepower. every sohc that ford built cost over $14,000 in 1965, and they were sold through ford dealer parts departments for only $3995. in the early 1970's new 'cammers' could be purchased for as little as $1100 from dealers anxious to unload the monster powerplants during the 'gas crisis' years. only about 500 motors were built in 1965 and 1966, most were serial numbered at holman and moody. this particular engine is serial number 6. this motor has nascar rods, nascar crank 'sidewinder' intake, early magnesium valve covers, holman & moody x2 cams, and extremely rare nascar cowl induction air cleaners. the bellhousing is a light weight galaxie r-c aluminum unit mated to a big input toploader 4 speed transmission. the rear end is a 4.11 ration with a minispool. all wheels are original kelsey-hayes hipo wheels with the rear ones widened to 8 inches.
