Description
This car was first delivered to Flight LT RE Lewis US Air Force care of Nisshin Automotive Company in May of 1956. The car was in Japan until 1959 when then Captain Lewis returned home to duty in Wichita Kansas, attached to the 86 Flight Bomber Squadron. It was there in Kansas at the Austin-Healey dealership he had the car converted to the LeMans specification. The car has benefitted from a full frame-off comprehensive restoration. This Austin-Healey 100 with LeMans modification is painted in the dual color scheme of Gun Metal Gray over Saint James Red. The interior is finished in Red Ox Blood vinyl with matching English wool carpeting and black armachord. New black vinyl top and tonneau cover fitted to the car with original side curtains. The engine has high compression pistons, high lift camshaft, twin 1 ¾ SU carburetors with special inlet manifolds, special 25D long shaft distributor with modified automatic advance curve and steel faced cylinder head gasket. Providing 110hp from the 2,660cc inline 4-cylinder engine. Independent front suspension with coil springs and anti-roll bar, rigid rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and anti-sway bar and 4-wheel hydraulic concentric ring drum brakes. Alloy louvered bonnet with LeMans regulation leather bonnet strap. Alloy front fenders and shroud, considered to be semi lightweight.
