INAUGURAL 2023 NEW ORLEANS AUCTION – 1954 CHEVROLET CUSTOM PICKUP – NO RESERVE
In a world where pickup trucks were once seen as mere workhorses, a remarkable evolution has given birth to extraordinary creations that transcend utility, embracing timeless aesthetics. Behold “Shadow” ‒ a bespoke 1954 Chevrolet pickup truck that transcends the ordinary. This automotive gem, presented from the MS CLASSIC CARS Collection with No Reserve at the inaugural 2023 New Orleans Auction, stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of enduring design and modern convenience that packs a punch. The visionary minds at MetalWorks Classic Auto Restoration of Eugene, Oregon, meticulously crafted this exceptional piece of artistic muscle.
Completed in May 2023, the craftsmanship behind this restoration spanned a four-year journey. The heart and soul of this custom is a Ross Automotive Machine-crafted LS2 6.0-liter V8 engine, painstakingly assembled to unleash 630 horsepower. The engine’s dominance is further enhanced by a March Serpentine pulley system, while vibrant orange Chevrolet valve covers declare its prowess with an artistic flair.
Power is transferred to the pavement with the help of a TCI 4L80E automatic transmission, designed to complement the engines robust performance. A Streetfighter stall converter ensures power delivery is as seamless as it is exhilarating. The energy continues through a custom aluminum driveshaft, channeling its force into a Strange 9-inch posi-traction rear end, a realm where 31-spline axles and a 3.70 gear ratio unite to master traction and acceleration.
“Shadow” rests upon an Art Morrison chassis tuned for a low-slung performance. The very foundation of the truck is further elevated by power rack & pinion steering. The front suspension hosts an independent configuration, boasting Sport IFS tubular A-arms enhanced by Strange coilover shocks, Pro drop spindles and a front sway bar. The performance-oriented engineering extends to the rear with a triangulated 4-bar suspension crowned by Strange coilovers and a rear sway bar.
Stopping power is derived from a frame-mounted dual reservoir master brake cylinder with Wilwood Pro Series four-wheel disc brakes, flaunting drilled and slotted rotors. The truck’s aggressive stance is further accomplished by a set of bespoke 18-inch Boze Forged “Shifter” Gunmetal wheels, each wrapped with a Nitto NT555 G2 tire.
Beyond its mechanical prowess, “Shadow” breathes refinement into every detail. Hours were dedicated to perfecting the sheet metal, ensuring impeccable panel alignment throughout. A custom tailgate and an artfully integrated roll pan enhance the 5-window factory body, creating a subtle yet distinctive customized signature. Drenched in Gray Metallic, “Shadow” wears its new exterior with pride, complemented by black Cerakote-coated exterior trim.
Stepping inside, “Shadow” becomes an oasis of comfort, a vision realized by the masterful touch of Jon Lind Interiors of Springfield, Oregon. A smoothed dash sets the tone, while black and gray leather upholstery adorn the bucket seats. The Dakota Digital HDX gauges, seamlessly integrated dash vents and the Flaming River tilt steering column paired with a padded steering wheel offer a modern touch to the driver’s experience. A Vintage Air system ensures the cabin is comfortable. A waterfall-designed console cradles the Alpine multimedia audio system, equipped with Bluetooth capabilities.
“Shadow” has emerged from the hands of dedicated craftsmen as a testament to the marriage of design and engineering. From its striking exterior to its meticulously crafted interior, this bespoke 1954 Chevrolet pickup stands as a symbol of beauty and power that transcends time and tradition.
