2019 FORD GT: This Lightweight is A Track-Day Warrior!

This carbon themed 2019 Ford GT “Lightweight” will be selling with No Reserve at the 2021 Houston Action

Innovation. That’s what the Ford GT is all about. In bringing the GT back to life, Ford began a new chapter in its performance car lineage. From the start, the GT was engineered as a proper race car for the road. Engineers worked tirelessly to shape every crease, angle, vent and channel to aerodynamically optimize its shape. The deliberate engineering choices led to a gorgeous yet functional design, a perfect example of form following function, one more than ready to tame any circuit and conquer the competition. And conquer it did.

In racing guise the GT dominated its class. Under the banner of Chip Ganassi Racing, the supercar would claim 19 victories in just four years at many of the most prolific motorsport events around the world: the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, 24 Hours of Daytona and of course, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But it’s not Le Mans that’s the focal point of this story. While that may have been the catalyst for the GT’s 2015 return, we’re instead talking about the GT’s back-to-back (2017-18) wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Unveiled in 2017, Ford debuted the limited-edition Competition Series following their success at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. “The Competition Series was developed with the most hardcore track enthusiasts in mind,” Raj Nair, Ford’s executive vice president, global product development, and chief technical officer said at the time. Engineered to build on the GT’s race car DNA, the Competition Series shifts the center of gravity lower by adding a racing-grade polycarbonate rear engine cover and thinner bulkhead Gorilla Glass, as well as carbon-fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts and titanium exhaust. Any item deemed “not essential to performance” – such as air conditioning, sound system, infotainment and cupholders – was removed. This is where the Ford GT’s 600A Lightweight Package comes in.

Think of the “Lightweight” as a bridge between the bare bones, hardest of hardcore Competition Series and the standard GT. The Lightweight offers the same weight-saving measures as the Competition Series while retaining things like air conditioning, cupholders and an infotainment system.

Offered with No Reserve is a stunning 2019 Ford GT “Lightweight.” Finished in Shadow Black accented by carbon-fiber stripes and exposed carbon-fiber trim, this GT – chassis #42 – boasts $74,750 in factory options. The GT’s interior is trimmed in the carbon theme, accented nicely by carbon-fiber trim, including the door sills. Tucked in the middle of this GT is a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that generates 647 horsepower, paired to a specially designed 7-speed Getrag dual-clutch gearbox. The GT can sprint to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and scream to a top speed of over 217 mph. As of this writing, this one-owner supercar is offered with 8 actual miles, and a purpose-built trailer is included in the sale.

The GT was designed to deliver the ultimate supercar driving experience, and the Lightweight improves on that while still offering day-to-day civility. When this stunner crosses the block at the 2021 Barrett-Jackson Houston Auction, its race-winning pedigree could be yours to celebrate.
