WITH CRAIG JACKSON AT THE HELM, THE COMPANY IS CELEBRATING 49 SUCCESSFUL YEARS IN THE COLLECTOR CAR HOBBY. CRAIG IS ALSO AN AVID CAR COLLECTOR, AWARD-WINNING RESTORER AND RACING ENTHUSIAST.
These are certainly unprecedented times we’re living through. We’re truly fortunate to be part of a resilient and supportive collector car community known to rally together during crises like this, and I want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to our great hobby. While we of course would love to be with you all in-person at one of our auctions, our top priority is to make sure everyone stays healthy and safe right now.
Since live events have taken a pause, it was a natural thing for Barrett-Jackson to return to an online format. Some might be surprised to know that we were an innovator in the collector car world with online bidding and online auctions. Back in 1995, Barrett-Jackson was the first in the industry to introduce online bidding as part of our live auctions – and in the early 2000s, we actually held online-only auctions as part of the “EClassics” TV show on Speedvision.
We were well ahead of our time back then, and it poised us to be precisely in the right position for where we find ourselves today – and we’re ready. Of course, there’s been a tremendous improvement in technology from what we were working with two decades ago. Nowadays, online auctions and purchases are safe, secure and certainly part of our daily lives.
Barrett-Jackson first held online-only auctions as part of the “EClassics” TV show on Speedvision in the early 2000s.
In the 20 years since those first online auctions, we’ve really built an incredible team of automotive professionals, from our in-house consignment specialists to renowned experts who review many of the vehicles you see on our docket. Photography has advanced in leaps and bounds – you can now zoom in and easily view each car’s details – and the high-resolution videos you’ll find on many of the docket listings in this auction really bring the cars to life.
We hope you enjoy the selection of collector cars and automobilia that we have carefully chosen for this Online Only event – it has been carefully curated to reflect the diversity of all our Barrett-Jackson auctions and features exceptional vehicles from some of our best consignors – including some fine selections from The Auto Sport and MS CLASSIC CARS collections. In addition to over 85 collector cars, there will be more than 250 authentic automobilia items, many from the highly regarded Nicodemus Collection.
Selling to benefit COVID-19 relief efforts is this Dale Earnhardt-driven No. 3 Chevrolet from the personal collection of Richard Childress.
I am humbled that NASCAR team owner Richard Childress has chosen our Online Only Auction to sell a very special #3 Chevrolet race car driven by Dale Earnhardt, marking the very first time he has parted with an Earnhardt car from his collection. The entire sale price of this vehicle will go directly to help with a number of COVID-19 relief efforts through Feeding America and Samaritan’s Purse – COVID-19 Responders, and I’m looking forward to seeing how our fantastic collector car community will come together once again to raise money for this important effort.
I invite you to look through the docket (and our digital catalog) and enjoy the many photos and videos that accompany the listings. I encourage you to register to bid, which is a very user-friendly process. We even have a “How-To” video on Barrett-Jackson.com that will walk you through each step.
Bidding will open on May 8 and will end on May 15 and 16 for collector cars, with automobilia wrapping up on May 17. We have included a number of Frequently Asked Questions on our website and on Page 6 of this digital catalog, but if you should have any questions at all about the online auction process, please feel free to reach out – we are here to help!
I’d like to thank our great consignors and bidders for participating in a “virtual” way during these unprecedented times, and certainly look forward to celebrating our passion for the collector car hobby in person in the not-too-distant future.
Stay safe, stay healthy – and enjoy the Barrett-Jackson Online Only May 2020 Auction!
