Just four of the 24 diverse MS Classic Cars Collection vehicles slated to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block at Mohegan Sun.

A former Mercedes-Benz dealership salesman, Marc Schiliro has been dabbling in collector cars since buying a 1965 Mustang Coupe when he was just 21 years old. “It was nice, but it was just a driver,” he recalls. Nevertheless, what started as a hobby eventually turned into a business and a passion.

Schiliro first came to Barrett-Jackson as a consignor in 2008 – and started MS Classic Cars LLC the following year, initially doing double-duty as a new and used car sales executive, and buying and selling collector cars on the side. In 2012, he took a giant leap, giving up his successful full-time job to focus on his growing collector car business. He hasn’t looked back since.

To say Schiliro is meticulous is an understatement. “I don’t take shortcuts,” says Schiliro. “I first start with buying vehicles I think are super-nice. What I really appreciate is quality and cleanliness in cars that are really nice. But even the super-nice cars – some of the best cars – need work. My team is dedicated to improving on the cars both cosmetically and mechanically, and documenting everything with invoices.”

To Schiliro and his team, attention to detail is crucial - as is evident by looking at the undercarriage of this 1934 Ford Custom Pickup (Lot #636).

His small team consists of business partner Bryan Frank, three mechanics (Wayne Arnold, Scott Bertrand and Carl Almeida) and detailer Chris Tansey. All are committed to the same exacting standards as Schiliro when it comes to collector cars – not only in regards to servicing, but also in terms of detailing. “The average muscle car we get takes literally two days for one man to detail to get them as good as we want them to look,” says Schiliro.

Of key importance to Schiliro is not only assembling a collection of quality vehicles, but utilizing his sales and marketing skills to present them as best as possible. He personally takes around 250 photos of each vehicle and carefully crafts the descriptions with as much detail as possible. “Great photos and descriptions are essential,” he maintains. “But photos are everything – even more important than a description. It could possibly make a huge difference in what your car could sell for.”

At this year’s Northeast Auction, perspective buyers will be able to choose from two dozen carefully selected and diverse offerings from the MS Classic Cars Collection. These range from the “jewel” of the group – a stunning 1966 Shelby GT350-H (Lot #665.1) – and an impeccably-restored 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle with sidecar (Lot #352) to a rare 1926 Dodge Brothers Roadster (Lot #348.1) and even a prewar Railway Express Agency baggage cart (Lot #66.1).

“I wouldn’t consign my cars to just any auction,” he says. “Barrett-Jackson is definitely the leader, and is a household name that is well-respected.” All but one of Schiliro’s cars will be sold at No Reserve, which he says has worked very well for him in the past. “No Reserve is key,” he says. “When buyers know something is being sold at No Reserve, they know they have the opportunity to buy it. People are going to Barrett-Jackson.com and looking at my cars, and know they will be bought by whoever is going to pay the most. And to me, that’s very exciting.”
