16lv-automobilia-9887With a cannon blast of confetti wrapping up an incredible Opening Night Party at Drai’s Beachclub and Nightclub overlooking the fabulous Strip, the 9th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction was officially underway.

Car enthusiasts streamed into the Mandalay Bay Convention Center the minute the doors opened at 8 a.m., enjoying the new site layout with everything under one roof – from the vast Exhibitor Marketplace and car displays to the renowned auction block itself.

The Automobilia Auction started things off early with more than 100 incredible pieces of America’s motor-related past up on the block. Top sellers today included a stunning 1928 Signal Gasoline restored visible filling station gas pump (Lot #6190), a 1950s service station Hershey’s Candy Bars dispenser (Lot #6188), a Mobil Oil hand-cranked oil lubester (Lot #6186) and even a dynamite plunger from the late 1800s (Lot #6150.1).

A stirring rendition of the national anthem by Rachel Dudt from the musical “Million Dollar Quartet” drew even more people into the auction arena and started the collector cars rolling for the day. More than 200 vehicles made their way across the block on this first day of the auction, with the top seller honors going to a 1956 Buick Special Convertible (Lot #176.1) and a 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS 396 (Lot #190).

Enjoy the videos and gallery below with highlights of the Opening Night Party, today’s top sellers, and activity in and around the auction site:
