LOT #770 – 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS LS6 COUPE – NO RESERVE
Muscle cars took the U.S. automotive industry by storm. They were built to go fast and represented some of the very best Detroit had to offer during the late 1960s into the early ’70s, before new regulations stunted their growth — and their speed. The too-short-lived age of classic American muscle has made these incredible vehicles among the most desirable to cross the Barrett-Jackson block. Arriving on the scene at a time when America was going through some radical social and cultural changes, these muscle cars reflect this societal shift.
Automotive stylists were given an unprecedented amount of freedom during this time, pushing the design envelope to a breaking point. Since manufacturers were free to design cars without federal safety, fuel economy and emission-control regulations, many cars received more power without adding size.
More power equals more fuel. With the onset of the gas crisis in 1973, followed by the ensuing emissions laws and tightening fuel economy regulations with a stagnant economy, the golden era of American muscle was cut short. However, the classic 2-door coupe design and potent engines have earned muscle cars a permanent place in many motorist’s hearts.
Enjoy this selection of muscle cars offered at the 2022 Houston Auction, held October 20-22 at NRG Center. Register to bid todayand see these spectacular vehicles cross the auction block.
