Charity car sales are always exciting and emotional moments at Barrett-Jackson, and the 2021 Scottsdale Auction will be especially significant, with the most VIN 001 vehicles ever offered at one event lined up to cross the block this week.
The first three of the nine “cars for a cause” to be offered in Scottsdale had their moments in the spotlight Thursday, including the right to own VIN 001s of the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings. The CT4-V brought the hammer down on a winning bid of $165,000, while the CT5-V brought in $265,000, with the $430,000 from both sales going entirely to Black Ambition, a PolicyLink non-profit initiative launched by singer-songwriter Pharell Williams that provides a bridge to success for Black and Latinx entrepreneurs who are launching tech, design, healthcare and consumer products/services start-ups.
Also crossing the block Thursday for a great cause was a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was raced by seven-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson. The Lowe’s #48 race car built by Hendrick Motorsports shop team members sold for $115,000, 100 percent of which will go to the Arizona Animal Welfare League, which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes dogs and cats throughout the state that have been surrendered, abandoned, abused and neglected.
With Cody Walker on the block to encourage bidding, this 2021 Honda Civic Type R sold for $165,000 – a new record sale, a portion of which will benefit Reach Out Worldwide, founded by Cody’s brother Paul Walker.
More than 250 collector cars made their way across the stage Thursday, with a number of records set in the process. Top sellers of the day included a 2021 Honda Civic Type R that sold for a record $165,000 (a portion of which will go to the Paul Walker charity Reach Out WorldWide), a custom 1975 Ford Bronco that brought in $126,500 (another record sale) and a 1965 Amphicar 770 convertible, which went to its new home for $115,500. There were 20 additional record sales set at Thursday’s auction as well, including a custom 1971 GMC Jimmy for $110,000, a custom 1968 International CO1800 pickup for $84,700 and a 1965 Triumph TR4 roadster for $71,500.
Thursday morning’s Automobilia Auction saw an incredible $52,900 sale of a pristine restored Texaco Oil gas pump from the late 1940s/early 1950s, while soda collectibles continued to pull in strong numbers, including two vintage Coca-Cola tin signs – one from the 1950s that sold for $11,500 and another from 1963 that brought in $11,155.
There are still general admission tickets available for the remainder of the event, which runs through Saturday, March 27 – fans are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance. In addition to viewing the more than 1,000 collector cars and stunning pieces of automobilia, there is plenty to do and see for the entire family, including the exciting Thrill Rides and Hot Laps going on at the Barrett-Jackson Performance Track.
