CARS OF DREAMS COLLECTION BEGINS TO ROLL ACROSS THE PALM BEACH AUCTION BLOCK

A packed auction arena today was eager to see the first group of vehicles from the John Staluppi Cars of Dreams Collection cross the block, including this 1953 Lincoln Capri Convertible (Lot #393).
Many bidders saw their dreams come true today as they went home with the first vehicles from the John Staluppi Cars of Dreams Collection. More than 50 cars, trucks, motorcycles and even a tractor from the much-anticipated collection made their way across the block today, with a favorite being a 1966 Good Humor Ice Cream Truck (Lot #392.1), which sold for $117,700 – much to the delight of the crowd in the auction arena.
Today’s top-selling car was a beautiful 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 Convertible (Lot #418.1), which sold for $157,300.
In all, more than 200 collector cars had their turn in the Barrett-Jackson spotlight today, with the top-selling car being a beautiful 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 (Lot #418.1) for $157,300. Other notable sales included four world records, including a 1947 Dodge Power Wagon Pickup (Lot #400.1) from the Cars of Dreams Collection that brought in $132,000 and a 1965 Oldsmobile 442 Custom Convertible (Lot #415) that sold for $117,700.
Car enthusiasts young and old streamed into the auction site today to view all the auction cars on display; take an exciting ride with a professional driver at the Ford Ride ’N Drives, Chevrolet Hot Laps and Dodge Thrill Rides; explore and shop at the many exhibitor and sponsor displays; check out the Behind The Hobby Collector Car Symposiums and get the inside scoop on many of the vehicles at the Motor Trend Live Stage. Lucky attendees may have gotten a glimpse of film icon Burt Reynolds, who was on hand today and will return tomorrow to witness the three vehicles he brought to the auction roll across the block.
The morning kicked off with nearly 90 more relics of our motoring past taking their turn on the auction block, where once again immaculately restored service station gas pumps proved their appeal, with a Texaco Oil model from 1941 (Lot #6284) grabbing the top spot when it sold for $25,300. Neon porcelain dealership signs from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s also did well, with several landing in the top 10 for the day, and a unique Esso Tiger kiddie ride (Lot #6288) also captured the attention of bidders.
With its former owner, Jimmy De Martini of the Zac Brown Band looking on, this 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider (Lot #3000) sold for $250,000 – all of which will go to Camp Southern Ground.
An exciting moment today was the charity auction of a special Zac Brown Band-wrapped 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider (Lot #3000) once belonging to band member Jimmy De Martini, who was on hand for the sale. With the help of the Vehicle Vault in Colorado, the Ferrari came to the Barrett-Jackson stage to benefit Camp Southern Ground, the passion project of multiplatinum Grammy-award-winning artist Zac Brown and his wife Shelly. When the final gavel fell, $250,000 was raised for the worthy cause, which will be used towards scholarships for campers with financial need as well as construction of a new residential lodge.

Gas pumps did well at today’s Automobilia Auction for the second days in a row, with Lot #6284 (right) – a 1941 Texaco Oil Bennett model #546 restored service station gas pump – taking top honors at $25,300.
Neon service station signs also did well today, with this 1930s-40s Chevrolet Super Service single-sided neon porcelain dealership sign (Lot #6295) going to its new home for $12,650.
In the 1960s, Esso urged consumers to “Put a Tiger in Your Tank,” and this museum-quality coin-operated kiddie ride (Lot #6288) was a great reminder of their slogan.
