COLLECTIBLE PIECES FROM THE PAST: Increasingly popular automobilia opens Day One of Barrett-Jackson’s Reno Tahoe auction

As evident by the record-setting automobilia sales at the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, pieces representing our automotive past are rapidly gaining in popularity – so much so that Barrett-Jackson dedicated an entire auction day to these unique collectibles. Bidders looking for items for home décor, pure nostalgia or to embellish a car collection eagerly showed up to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center today for a chance to take home some authentic pieces of Americana. “I’m looking for any automobilia relating to muscle cars,” said one active bidder. “I like to use the pieces to complement my 25-car collection.”
While large neons are always top sellers, big winners on Day One also included a number of vintage gas pumps, a soda machine, a “Dino the Dinosaur” statue, a rare McDonald’s sign and a seldom-seen double-sided service station sign. More authentic automobilia, including highly collectible items from the J. Rennick and Saracino collections, will be on offer Friday and Saturday.
Here is a gallery of today’s automobilia highlights:
Often neons are among the top sellers, as was the case with an all-original Nash Automobiles single-sided neon and a 1950s DeSoto Plymouth double-sided neon porcelain dealership sign (pictured here).
This perfectly restored 1950s Coca-Cola soda bar made from an original Ideal Coca-Cola soda machine was in the top 10 today.
Several gas pumps were among the top sellers, including an immaculate late 1940s Texaco Oil Wayne 100 restored service station pump (center).
This phenomenal large three-dimensional cast metal Sinclair Service Station “Dino the Dinosaur” statue was among today’s top 10 sellers.
