There’s nothing quite like cars that bring people together, whether it’s reminiscing about their first vehicle or enthusing about their latest purchase off the showroom floor. But that car camaraderie is particularly evident in the collector car world, where enthusiasts relish the opportunity to share their passion and take their collectibles out on the open road.

This October, hobbyists had the opportunity to do just that with the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Road Tour. The special event saw 47 collector car owners bring their favorite rides to Summit Racing in McDonough, Georgia, to embark on a week-long journey that took them more than 1,600 miles through five states, before ending up in Key West, Florida.

“The Barrett-Jackson experience has become something truly unique in the collector car world,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, when the Road Tour was announced. “Our auctions are the heartbeat of this hobby, but the Barrett-Jackson experience encompasses so much more. Our Collector Car Road Tours will be another example of how the Barrett-Jackson experience brings this community together to enjoy our shared passion for collector cars.”

The fall road-going adventure included stops at places like the Atlanta Motor Speedway and three private collections in Georgia, as well as Roush Fenway Racing in North Carolina. In Florida, participants paid visits to Excell Auto Group, Prestige Imports, and the American Muscle Car, Cars of Dreams and Elliot museums.

The tour took in several private collections and museums, including the American Muscle Car Museum.

Highlights included a ride on the St. Johns River Ferry in Florida, experiencing the exhilarating 318 turns in 11 miles on the Tail of the Dragon scenic mountain highway in North Carolina, and an exciting spin around the track in the latest BMW’s vehicles at the automaker’s Performance Center in South Carolina.

Participants enjoyed some rest and relaxation in the evenings at a variety of top resorts along the route, but the pièce de résistance was unquestionably the last stop at the Waldorf Astoria Key West, where an idyllic dinner on the beach as the sun set provided the perfect finish to an incredible Barrett-Jackson Road Tour.

“I knew it was going to be a great time,” said one participant. “(It was) very well-organized and communicated, and the accommodations and shops/car collection visits were fantastic. Looking forward to more of these!”

That participant will get his wish this spring. From May 13-20, 2021, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Road Tour will take car enthusiasts and their vehicles on a sure-to-be-memorable journey. The event will start at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale, Arizona, headquarters and carry on over eight days, ending in Tacoma, Washington, at Griot’s Garage headquarters. From the scenic deserts of the Southwest to the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, the tour will wind through mountains passes, Death Valley, giant redwood trees and some of the best car collections on the West Coast.
