Lot #757, a rare M-code-stamped 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sport Roadster, sold at the Northeast Auction for a record price of $132,000.
Barrett-Jackson’s just-completed Inaugural Northeast Auction at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut saw a number of records set – and not just in attendance. The diverse docket of nearly 600 collector cars provided a number of notable sales, including three records at auction for cars that appeal to everyday collectors.
A rare M-code-stamped 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sport Roadster (Lot #757) with just 3,600 miles on the odometer sold for the record price of $132,000, while a 1991 Ferrari 348 TS Targa (Lot #704) set another record when it brought in $77,000. Pop culture may well have played a role in the record-setting price of $41,800 for a 1984 American Motors Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler (Lot #594): it was once owned by longtime CBS broadcaster Charles Kuralt, best known for his “On the Road” segments on “The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite.”
The Trans Am and Dodge Power Wagon trends that began with the 2016 Scottsdale Auction show no signs of letting up, with several models pulling in strong numbers in Connecticut.
Enjoy the gallery below of notable – and interesting – sales at Barrett-Jackson’s Inaugural Northeast Auction:
The top seller of the Northeast Auction was a factory-documented, multiple-award-winning 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 (Lot #688), which sold for $624,800.
This low-mileage 1991 Ferrari 348 TS Targa (Lot #704) sold for a record price of $77,000.
A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot #669) had a strong showing in the top ten, selling for $346,500.
The Trans Am train continues to pull in strong numbers … this 1981 Bandit Edition (Lot #440) sold for $93,500.
This matching-numbers, fully restored 1967 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 (Lot #665.1) went to its new home for $300,000 – one of the auction’s top sellers.
Dodge Power Wagons are increasingly popular. This 1953 example once owned by actor Tom Selleck (Lot #633) brought in $121,000.
Superbirds always turn heads at auction, and this 1970 Plymouth HEMI Superbird (Lot #676) was one of them, selling for $330,000.
A 1984 American Motors Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler (Lot #594) once owned by broadcaster Charles Kuralt set a new auction record when it sold for $41,800.
Richard Rawlings and his Gas Monkey Garage brought an even dozen cars to the Northeast Auction, and their “GMGT” – a 2005 Ford GT Custom Coupe (Lot #643) – was one of their big winners, bringing in $253,000.
This 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Custom Coupe (Lot #455) was converted into a KITT replica from the TV show “Knight Rider.” It was signed by the show’s star, David Hasselhoff, which may have contributed to its sale price of $21,450.
There was a good turnout of Porsches at the Northeast Auction, including this 1966 Porsche 911 (Lot #686), which brought in $183,700.
A sleek red 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV (Lot #662) was one of the auction’s top sellers, going to its new home for $236,500.
Not many would think a 1978 Datsun 620 pickup (Lot #35) would bring in $17,050, but this one – sealed in a barn and owned by one family for over 34 years – did just that.
An award-winning offering from Ringbrothers – a 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback known as “Bailout” (Lot #632) – sold for $225,500.
Lot #677, a stunning show-condition 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Roadster, was one of the auction’s top ten sellers, bringing in $187,000.
The Bricklin is a sports car assembled in Canada for the U.S. market from 1974 to 1976, so Barrett-Jackson’s many Canadian fans were interested to see this 1975 model (Lot #116) sell for $33,000.
This original matching-numbers, rotisserie-restored 1968 Shelby GT500 KR convertible (Lot #668) brought in $203,500 at the Northeast Auction.
There were a number of Chevrolet Bel Airs at the Northeast Auction, but this 1995 custom convertible (Lot #652) topped them all when it sold for $192,500.
