As is Barrett-Jackson tradition, the night before the collector cars start to cross the auction block, the auction arena is transformed into an incredible nightclub-like venue for the much-anticipated Opening Night Gala. Last night, bidders, consignors, sponsors and invited guests enjoyed sampling dishes from gourmet food stations and enjoying a great night of entertainment and dancing. The London Essentials, an international five-piece acoustic band, uniquely integrated themselves throughout the guests as they performed. They warmed up the crowd for the amazing main act, the versatile Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra, a visually stunning 14-piece band renowned for its world-class string and brass section.

Enthusiasts streamed into the vast Barrett-Jackson auction site throughout the day, taking in the many collector cars, enjoying the sponsor displays and exhibitor marketplace, watching the custom builds take place before their eyes in the new DIY Pavilion and learning more about collector cars through symposiums and discussions at the new Shell Pennzoil Pioneering Performance Stage.

In the auction arena, automobilia started off the morning, with nearly 300 nostalgic items up for auction, many from the outstanding Gordon Apker Collection. Beautiful neon signs were today’s big winners, with a spectacular Cadillac Ranch Bar and Grill neon and brushed aluminum sign selling for $16,100.

The arena was full as the National Anthem was performed live by former “American Idol” contestant Laura Walsh and the first collector cars of the event began their journey across the block. A total of 101 vehicles were auctioned today of the more than 1,700 on the docket – the most cars Barrett-Jackson has ever auctioned in a single event.
