The Velocity television cameras began to roll today as live television coverage of the 46th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction got underway. Two decades ago, the very first live broadcast of the Scottsdale Auction aired on Speedvision, the fulfillment of a strategy Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson had for the company when he took the reins in 1995.

While the television cameras rolled, guests to the vast auction site were efficiently shuttled from parking lots to the main entrance – or arrived there by Uber – where they began to explore the more than one million square feet of automotive heaven that’s all under cover.

In addition to the ongoing activity on the new Shell Pennzoil Pioneering Performance Stage and in the DIY Pavilion – where visitors can watch car care demonstrations and see two custom vehicle builds come to life before their eyes – guests enjoyed the hundreds of sponsor exhibits and marketplace shops, Dodge Thrill Rides and more.

In the auction arena, a colorful array of more than 200 authentic automobilia items took to the stage in the morning, from toy cars and kiddie rides to pedal cars and porcelain signs. The big winner of the day was a spectacular, hard-to-find Dogs-N-Suds neon porcelain drive-in sign from the 1950s (Lot #8992), which went to its new home for $23,000.

The nearly 200 collector cars on today’s docket began crossing the block in the early afternoon, as live TV viewers from the U.K., Canada and throughout the U.S. looked on – right along with those in the busy auction arena. From pickups to Porsches and Mustangs to Maseratis, there was a little something for everyone, with the top sellers including an all-original, unrestored survivor 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible (Lot #7000) and a restored 1940 American Bantam Pickup (Lot #207.3).

Enjoy the video and gallery below of highlights from the auction arena and around the auction site:
