Excitement continues to build as Barrett-Jackson’s 12th Annual Las Vegas Auction speeds towards its grand finale on Super Saturday!

Celebrating the $250,000 sale of the 2018 Ford Fusion NASCAR #2 race car: Chris Perry (Chief Development & Marketing Officer, United Way for Southeastern Michigan), Craig Jackson, Team Penske owner Roger Penske and “Barrett-Jackson Now” host April Rose with the winning bidders.

Friday’s activity in the auction arena was highlighted by the sale of the Southern 500-winning Team Penske No. 2 Miller Genuine Draft Ford Fusion race car, which was driven to victory by Brad Keselowski. Bringing the car – and the race trophy – to the stage was none other than legendary team owner and entrepreneur Roger Penske. The hammer came down on a winning bid of $250,000, 100 percent of which will go directly to United Way of Southeastern Michigan.

Coming in hot on the block Friday were vehicles from the 1950s and customs, with a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible, 1955 Bel Air custom coupe and a 1970 Chevrolet C10 custom pickup taking top honors for the day among the 234 vehicles that made their way across the auction block – each selling for $110,000. Friday also saw another 14 record auction sales, including a 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 ($82,500 one of the day’s top sellers), a 1992 GMC Typhoon Carryall once owned by actor Bill Bixby ($60,500) and a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 IWC Edition roadster ($54,450).

This Ford V8 neon sign from the 1930s was the top-selling automobilia item Friday, brining in $34,500.

This Ford V8 neon sign from the 1930s was the top-selling automobilia item Friday, brining in $34,500.

It was also a banner day for automobilia, with neon signs and gas pumps rising to the top of the 123 items on offer for the day. A 1930s Ford V8 neon sign was the big winner, catching one lucky bidder’s eye for $34,500. Among the top gas pump sales were two bedecked in Ford regalia: one from the 1940s that sold for $24,150 and another visible model from 1928 that went to its new home for $17,250. A beautifully restored Coca-Cola vending machine from the late 1940s/early 1950s also turned bidders’ head: it sold for $11,500 and ended up as one of the day’s top sellers.

Collector cars and automobilia weren’t the only stars in the auction arena today. Three members of the legendary rock band Aerosmith – which is in the middle of a Las Vegas residency – stopped by to check out the action: guitarists Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford, as well as drummer Joey Kramer. A star of the racetrack, IMSA driver Joey Hand – winner of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans LMGTE Pro class for Ford Chip Ganassi Team USA driving the Ford GT – was also on hand, signing autographs for fans in the Ford display.

The Exhibitor Marketplace, sponsor displays and the new TechForce STEM Center were hopping with activity Friday, as were the popular Toyota and Dodge Thrill Rides. Take a look at the video below to get a taste of the Thrill Ride action, and check out the gallery of highlights from around the event, including the day’s top sellers and some of the record-breakers.
