The collector car community lost a popular member earlier this year with the passing of Greg Mauzy, a prominent and ever-smiling member of the Barrett-Jackson family since attending the 2008 Palm Beach auction. An avid collector, Mauzy was also known for his philanthropic nature, giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to various deserving organizations through the auction of charity cars at the Barrett-Jackson events – sometimes even donating more on top of his own bid.

Mauzy’s charitable legacy will continue as one of his prized vehicles, a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro COPO, VIN #005 (Lot #3000), will roar onto the block at the 2015 Las Vegas Auction, with all proceeds of the sale benefiting the Fisher House Foundation. The winning bidder not only will get a beautiful car, but also will receive tours of both Hendrick Motorsports and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina – along with four Hot Passes via Hendrick Motorsports to the race of the bidder’s choosing.

The auction of a brand-new VIN #001 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat raised $1.65 million for charity at the 2014 Las Vegas auction.

The auction of a brand-new VIN #001 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat raised a total of $1.65 million for charity at the 2014 Las Vegas auction.

Barrett-Jackson’s strong commitment to philanthropy since its inception in 1971 has resulted in over $84 million raised for both local and national charities, with nearly $11 million generated so far in 2015 alone. Because the auction company waives all fees on charity vehicles, 100 percent of the hammer price goes directly to each worthy cause.

The excitement and emotion in the auction arena when one of these vehicles crosses the block is incredible – as was the case at the Las Vegas auction in 2014, when Las Vegas icons Wayne Newton and Penn Gillette took to the stage to encourage bidding on a brand-new, VIN #001 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. There was hardly a dry eye in the house when the hammer came down: $1.65 million (the winning bid and a matching donation) was raised for the Las Vegas-based charity Opportunity Village.

At this year’s 8th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction, nonprofit organizations will once again reap the benefits from the auction not only of Greg Mauzy’s COPO, but from two more remarkable automobiles as they cross the block for charity.

“The vehicles that cross the block to benefit charities continue Barrett-Jackson’s long tradition of making a difference,” says Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson. “We are proud to share our stage with so many great causes.”

Here is a look at the three cars set to cross the auction block in Las Vegas for charity:

This 2013 Chevrolet COPO Camaro, VIN #005 (Lot #3000), is one of a limited production of 69 cars. It pays homage to the original ZL-1 COPO Camaros made in 1969. This next-generation COPO Camaro features a 427ci V8 power plant producing 425hp and is designed to NHRA specifications, including a solid rear axle and full chrome-moly roll cage. It will be auctioned to benefit the Fisher House Foundation, a network of comfort homes where active military and veterans’ families may stay at no cost while a loved one receives treatment. The winning bidder of this charity vehicle will also receive tours of both Hendrick Motorsports and the NASCAR Museum located in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as four Hot Passes to the race of his or her choosing.

Donated by General Motors is a 2014 Fifth-Generation Camaro Z/28 (Lot #3001) benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Meant to carry on the legendary tradition of the original Z/28 and engineered to be the most track-capable Camaro ever produced, this 2014 Z/28 is one of less than 2,000 produced between 2014 and 2015. This performance vehicle features a hand-assembled LS7 427ci engine that delivers 505 horsepower and 481 ft/lbs of torque, mated to a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual gearbox.
