Day 2 of the 2024 Scottsdale Fall Auction, presented by Gila River Resorts & Casinos, was full of excitement, with the arena erupting in cheers throughout the day.
A particularly moving moment came when a 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse (Lot #3000) took center stage for charity. Donated by longtime Barrett-Jackson friends Mike and Tracy Patterson, the Dark Horse benefited a cause that really resonated with the generous bidders. The $700,000 total raised through the sale directly benefited Samaritan’s Purse to aid in hurricane relief efforts in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
Michelle Mauzy and Joe Riley, both noted philanthropists and longtime members of the Barrett-Jackson family, became winners in more ways than one during the sale. Mauzy first brought the gavel down with a winning bid of $350,000 and, in an extraordinary act of generosity, donated the car back to be auctioned a second time. Riley then stepped in with the second winning bid of $250,000. The moment was further elevated by an additional $100,000 donation from the Pattersons, the original donors of the Mustang, making it a truly heartwarming and impactful event.
The Dark Horse Mustang was one of over 200 vehicles that crossed the Barrett-Jackson auction block on Friday, Oct. 11, at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
Leading the day’s sales was a 1978 Batmobile re-creation (Lot #448) that claimed top honors when it sold for $220,000. A 1937 Ford custom convertible (Lot #401) followed, selling for $192,500 as it made its way across the block. Other highlights of the day included Lot #435, a 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost selling for $165,000; Lot #417, a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad custom wagon for $139,700, and Lot #469, a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 for $135,300.
Collections were in the spotlight on Day 2, with the remaining vehicles from the David M. Ressler Collection and the GM Pace Car Collection heading to new homes. Onlookers in the arena cheered when the 1993 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 40th Anniversary Edition (Lot #393.1) sold from the Ressler Collection for $115,500 and when a 2005 Chevrolet SSR pickup (Lot #471.1) from the GM Pace Car Collection sold for $137,500. Additional vehicles from the Bryan Frank Collection and the MS Classic Cars Collection also had their turn on the block.
The collector cars weren’t the only stars in attendance today. Renowned chef Mark Tarbell judged the Southwest Chef Showdown, a cooking competition featuring chefs of all skill levels. Tarbell will return to judge another head-to-head battle on Saturday, October 12. Actor William Shatner, best known for his role as Captain Kirk on “Star Trek,” was on the block for the sale of his 2016 Jaguar F-Type R convertible (Lot #348). Constance Nunes, a mechanic and restoration specialist, also made an appearance at the Scottsdale Fall Auction on Friday.
The morning’s activity began with nearly 100 examples of authentic automobilia up on the block during the Automobilia Auction, where Lot #9385, a 1931 Texaco Oil Butler #30 visible gas pump and Lot #9397, a circa 1940s Mobil Oil Socony-Vacuum Aviation Products porcelain with neon sign, proved to the stars of Friday’s show, each selling for $40,250.
Following the top sales, a trio of Ford-themed collectibles made a strong showing. A 1951 Ford Bowser Siamese Rol-Way gas pump with a lighter unit (Lot #9374) sold for $22,425, while a circa 1930s-40s Ford Automobiles neon porcelain sign (Lot #9399) brought in $21,275. Additionally, a 1927 Ford Automobiles Tokheim Model #600 visible gas pump (Lot #9378) found a new home for $19,550, rounding out the impressive lineup of Ford memorabilia.
