SOLD TWICE! Jeff Gordon’s 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 brought a total of $350,000 to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation to fund childhood cancer research.
The auction arena was buzzing with many exciting moments on Friday.
The auction arena was buzzing with excitement throughout the day on Friday at the 2019 Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction, with the crowd erupting into cheers on a number of occasions as several highly anticipated vehicles had their turn on the block.
NASCAR great Jeff Gordon sent his personal 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to the auction in an effort to raise much-needed funds for childhood cancer research. Bidders thought the “car for a cause” was so nice, it sold twice! In an incredible act of generosity, the gentleman who brought the gavel down first on a winning bid of $200,000 immediately donated it back to be sold again – this time to noted philanthropist and longtime Barrett-Jackson customer John Staluppi, for $150,000. The entire $350,000 raised will go to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.
Of the five vehicles Chevrolet brought to the auction, this 2019 Corvette ZR1 C7 ended up as Friday’s top seller, going to its new home for $134,200.
Chevrolet brought five special vehicles to sell in Florida – two Hot Wheels Edition Camaros and three low-VIN, low-mileage 2019 Corvettes. Three of the five ended up among the top sales of the day, but even more exciting was the announcement that General Motors will be donating the final seventh-generation Corvette – a black 2019 Z06 model – to be sold at the 2019 Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction in June to benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
“You think you hate it now, wait ’til you drive it!” This custom Ford LTD station wagon – a re-creation of the car from the film “National Lampoon’s Vacation” – sold for a record $100,100.
It’s not every day that a station wagon would attract any attention – unless it’s the “Family Truckster” from the popular film “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” The 1981 Ford LTD station wagon that had been meticulously transformed into a re-creation of the movie car headed off on its next adventure for a winning bid of $100,100, making it one of the day’s top sellers.
In a diverse offering that ranged from a 1960 Porsche Tractor to a classic Rolls-Royce, more than 200 vehicles made their way across the Barrett-Jackson block Friday. Another 11 record sales at auction were made today, with three 2019 Corvettes from Chevrolet – a ZR1 C7, a Grand Sport C7 and a Z06 convertible – along with a beautiful custom 1957 Bel Air, rounding out the top five.
A colorful Ferrari neon dealership sign was among the top sellers at Friday’s Automobilia Auction.
Two incredible visible gas pumps from the 1920s and ’30s, an animated Texaco Oil neon sign from the 1950s, a colorful Ferrari neon sign and a Honda mini-bike from the 1970s came out on top during the morning’s Automobilia Auction, with a coin-operated Jetsons kiddie ride and a 1940s Coca-Cola refrigerated cooler also catching bidders’ eyes.
Of course, there’s much to do and see outside of the auction arena as well!
