This 1967 Ford Mustang Custom Fastback known as “Obsidian” will be just one of hundreds of sought-after vehicles to be featured at Barrett-Jackson’s Inaugural Northeast Auction in April.
At the 45th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January, records were set, reset and shattered in the desert. More records were set at the Palm Beach Auction in April. In June, the party heads to the Northeast – and in the automotive world, no one knows how to throw a party like Barrett-Jackson.
After the Scottsdale auction saw a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach edition (Lot #1392) sell for a record price of $1.76 million and a 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo (Lot #1367) bring in $264,000, many eyes are on that marque to see what will happen next. Will there be another to set a record?
Barrett-Jackson is also the place to go if you’re looking to sell your Pontiac. In Scottsdale, the ground shook as two Trans Ams smashed records. The showstoppers were a 1979 10th Anniversary Edition (Lot #763.1) that sold for $187,000 and the 1977 Trans Am (Lot #7004) that served as the official promo car for the film “Smokey and the Bandit” grabbed a jaw-dropping price of $550,000. Many other Pontiacs also brought in admirable amounts during the week. A world record was also set last year in Florida: a slick black 1987 Buick Grand National GNX (Lot #387) sold for $165,000. It’s clear that the values of cars from the ’70s and ’80s are heating up.
If you’re thinking of selling your car, Barrett-Jackson has consistently been the auction to watch in terms of trends, record sales and the highest sell-through rate in the industry. The 2016 Scottsdale Auction saw a 99 percent sell-through rate on nearly 1,500 collector cars; the sell-through rate at this year’s Palm Beach Auction was an impressive 96.3 percent on nearly 500 vehicles. Putting your car in front of more pre-qualified bidders than any other venue, and on live television, is a proven strategy for success. Who knows – maybe you have a potential record-setter in your garage. (Click HERE to find out how to sell your car at Barrett-Jackson.)
The Barrett-Jackson formula doesn’t just benefit consignors. Barrett-Jackson utilizes a team of automotive experts that works at each event to help review certain high-end and rare cars that may be represented, by the consignor, as having matching numbers or documented with show provenance. Barrett-Jackson’s commitment to the industry, in conjunction with our No Reserve format, appeals to many buyers. Barrett-Jackson is the ultimate real-time snapshot of the collector car marketplace.
