There’s nothing quite like the excitement of being a bidder at a Barrett-Jackson auction. Whether you choose to sit on the sidelines or get into the game, you have an up-close view of some of the most amazing auctions in the collector car industry.
At Barrett-Jackson, being a bidder includes more than just receiving a bidder paddle and event catalog. As a bidder at our upcoming Palm Beach Auction, you and a guest will have admission to Preview Day and every auction day, access to the bidder seating area and the exclusive bidder bar with drink cards, a parking pass and an invitation for two to the Opening Night Gala. All in all, you can be assured of an experience to remember.
The path to bidding, as with consigning, begins with registration (even if you’ve been a bidder before). If you are at the auction, visit a bidder representative in the Auction Office. Otherwise, simply visit Barrett-Jackson.com and download the Bidder Agreement Form. You’ll need to fill this out and submit it along with the required items, including the registration fee (discounted if you submit before the pre-registration deadline), a photo, a copy of your driver’s license, proof of valid auto insurance and, most importantly, a method of payment. All of this is needed before bidder credentials can be released.

Absentee Bidding
If you can’t physically be at a Barrett-Jackson auction or have to leave the auction early, you can easily become an absentee bidder – a form of bidding that has grown tremendously in popularity in recent years. All you’ll need to do is complete an absentee bidder registration form, submit the same information required for on-site bidding and pay a $100 fee. It makes things run more smoothly if you get your information to Barrett-Jackson before the start of the auction on the day you want to place an absentee bid. There are a number of absentee bidding options available:
- Telephone Bidding: When the vehicle you’ve specified in your absentee bidder agreement is being auctioned, a Barrett-Jackson staff member will execute the bid using direct telephone contact with you.
- Online Bidding: From the comfort of your home or office – through the Internet-based program “Live Block” on Barrett-Jackson’s website – you can place a bid over the Internet in a live, real-time environment. You’ll be given a bidder ID and password, and then can bid as if you are at the auction via the live feed of vehicles on the Barrett-Jackson block. This service starts on the first day of the auction.
- Bidding by Proxy: This option is as easy as it sounds ‒ just set a maximum bid amount on a specific vehicle, and an auction representative will execute the bid for you until the vehicle is purchased or your maximum bid is reached.
Regardless of how you bid, you’ll need to set up a bid limit and payment method. You can do this in one of four ways:
- Woodside Credit, a nationwide collector car finance company, is exclusively endorsed by Barrett-Jackson to provide low monthly payment financing options to our Barrett-Jackson clients. Visit Woodside at woodsidecredit.com/barrett-jackson or call 800-717-5180 to learn more and to get pre-approved. The minimum pre-approval amount is $30,000.
- Bank Letter of Guaranty (U.S. residents only): Written on your bank’s letterhead, this letter of guaranty proves your credit worthiness and guarantees that when the hammer falls, you’ve got the funds to cover that winning bid. Whether your budget falls in the range of $10,000 or $10 million, the minimum amount of credit to establish is $30,000, known as the “minimum bid limit.” You don’t have to spend $30,000, but the letter of guaranty must qualify you for at least that amount, and means you can write a personal or company check against that letter. If you have a higher budget, the letter will need to establish you have credit in the higher amount.
- Wire Transfer: You’ll need to choose this option if you’re planning to wire U.S. funds for vehicle payment, or if you’re a non-U.S. resident planning to draw funds from non-U.S. bank accounts. (Checks are not accepted from non-U.S. banks.)
- Bid Limit Deposit: Depositing at least $9,000 in cash or cashier’s check made payable to Barrett-Jackson (sorry, personal/business checks or credit cards are not accepted) will get you a bid limit of at least $90,000. The higher the deposit, the higher the bid limit. If you didn’t have the winning bid, you can get your deposit back at the auction office. Forget to pick it up in all the excitement? No worries ‒ Barrett-Jackson will return your deposit to you by mail within 10 days of the auction.
