MILLION-DOLLAR MUSTANG: “Pegasus Project” Fastback Stars At The Auction And Record-Breaking Sales Set The Tone For Super Saturday

Day 7 of was one for the record books! More than 60 world records were set as Barrett-Jackson experienced its best Friday ever. The action kicked into high gear shortly after doors opened with the day’s first $100,000 sale — and it didn’t stop until the last car crossed the block. The pace, the prices and the enthusiasm were unprecedented!
As the day progressed, exuberant bidders and auto aficionados packed the auction arena as just over 380 sought-after high-performance muscle cars, sleek supercars, powerful trucks and even a few never-before-sold-at-auction conversation starters crossed the block. Six-figure sales kept the action at a fever pitch, and the roar of the audience grew with each bang of the gavel.
Friday’s top sellers were Lot #1091, 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom Coupe, $352,000; Lot #1087, 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Tribute Edition, and Lot #1103, 2022 Corvette Stingray Convertible IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, both of which sold for $330,000; Lot #1064, 1964 Lincoln Continental Custom Convertible, $304,700; and Lot #1013, 1954 Willys Jeep Custom Pickup, Lot #1083, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Custom Coupe, Lot #1088, 1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible, and Lot 1112, 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Tribute Edition Fastback, which sold for $275,000 each.
The Collector Car Auction saw some exciting moments, including the sale of the day’s first charity car — one of four that crossed the block on Friday. The custom-built 1968 Mustang Fastback Resto-Mod (Lot #3003) left folks cheering as the gavel fell on a record-shattering $1 million bid, with 100% of the Mustang’s hammer price going to the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) Foundation.
Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson and President Steve Davis drove the excitement as they joined Aaron Shelby, grandson of legendary designer Carroll Shelby; Henry Ford III, grandson of the automotive titan, and other Ford and Shelby VIPs to announce the brand-new Shelby GT500KR, which commemorates Shelby American’s 60th anniversary. The event was particularly meaningful for Craig, who had a strong friendship with Carroll Shelby — he even named his daughter Shelby after the automotive icon. The vehicle (Lot #3006) later sold at the end of the evening for an extraordinary $700,000, with 100% of the hammer price going to the Carroll Shelby Foundation and JDRF, which supports Type 1 diabetes research.
Craig also joined Corvette racing legend Oliver Gavin and leaders from Corvette and General Motors to introduce the 2023 70th anniversary ZO6. VIN 001 will be auctioned off on Saturday evening, with 100% of the hammer price benefiting Operation Homefront.
Also on the day’s charity docket was one of two exciting brand-new vehicles from Toyota. Lot #3005 is a 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Crewmax pickup. With VIN 002, it is the second Toyota hybrid pickup to be sold in North America, and 100% of its $550,000 hammer price will benefit the Toyota U.S. Paralympic Fund, which supports the Team USA’s Paralympic athletes, including Arizona native Kaitlyn Verfuerth, who joined Craig and Steve on the block. VIN 001 of the 2022 Tundra will be auctioned for charity on Super Saturday.
Music icon and Barrett-Jackson friend Bret Michaels brought the audience to their feet with his high-energy appearance to auction off his 2007 Bentley Continental GT (Lot #3003.1), with part of the proceeds benefiting his Life Rocks Foundation, which helps raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes. Following some spirited bidding, the silver luxury vehicle sold for $126,500.
Michaels then lent his star power to the auction of Lot #3004, a 1973 De Tomaso Pantera. The Italian supercar sold for $155,000, with 100% of the hammer price going to the Barrow Neurological Foundation, an organization near and dear to Michaels’ heart.
The day began with the Automobilia Auction, and two impeccably restored kiddie rides were top sellers. Lot #9383.1, which showcases a playful figure of Borden Dairy’s lovable mascot Elsie the Cow, took the top spot, selling for $86,250. The $46,000 sale price of Lot #9383, a 1950s Christ Craft Woody Speed Boat ride made waves as well. Neon porcelain signs, always popular among collectors, were also in the spotlight today including Lot #9398.1 a 1930s-40s General Motor Radio Neon Porcelain Sign that sold for $63,250.
