MONDAY IN MOTION: Day Three in Scottsdale Sees the First Fall of the Gavel
January 20, 2025
Posted by Barrett-Jackson
Monday, Jan. 20, was an exciting day at WestWorld as more than 150 collector vehicles and 275 automobilia items made their way across the auction block on Day 3 of the 2025 Scottsdale event, marking the start of all the auction action that will continue to build throughout the week.
The day’s events began shortly after the gates opened with the Automobilia Auction, offering bidders unique and nostalgic collectibles that ranged from fast food memorabilia and vintage kiddie rides to antique gas pumps and spectacular neon signs. Among the desirable automobilia heading to new homes, the day’s top seller was a late 1950s-early ’60s Phillips 66 porcelain sign with animated neon (Lot #7494.1) that sold for $32,200. Neon continued to be popular, claiming two additional spots among the top sales of the day with a 1930s-40s Ford Automobiles neon porcelain sign (Lot #7494.2) and an Armadillo Willys neon tin sign (Lot #7494.5), each selling for $28,750. Rounding out the top five sales of the day were two gas pumps, a 1940s-50s Texaco Oil Tokheim Model 39 tall gas pump (Lot #7473.1) for $26,450 and a late 1940s-early ’50s Sinclair Oil M/S Model #80 gas pump (Lot #7486) for $18,400.
A highlight of the morning was when Shine Hogan, a 12-year-old known for his incredible restoration of go-karts, was on the block for the sale of his vintage push scooter, Lot #7479.1. The Automobilia Auction will continue each morning before collector vehicles begin crossing the block throughout the 2025 Scottsdale Auction. Each Lot can be viewed in the automobilia area adjacent to the main auction stage or previewed online.
Collector cars kept the afternoon rolling as bidders and enthusiasts filled the arena to capacity to see Monday’s all-No-Reserve docket cross the block, featuring a diverse array of custom and modern-day vehicles. The day’s top seller was a 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Turbo Indy 500 Pace Car (Lot #27) from the GM Heritage Collection. The sale was followed by the 1982 Buick Riviera Convertible Indianapolis 500 Pace Car (Lot #26.1), which is also part of the unique collection. Other notable sales included a 2017 Maserati Granturismo (Lot #83.1), a 2007 Bentley Continental GT (Lot #70.1) and a 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS (Lot #62).
In addition to all the action on the block, there was much to see around the auction site. A local Mustang car club stopped by to take in the sights, and the first finalist for the 2025 Barrett-Jackson Cup was revealed today: a 1932 Ford Roadster owned by Mekenzie Murphy and built by Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. The custom pink roadster was painted to match Murphy’s childhood stroller and pedal car. It’s powered by a 400ci small-block Chevrolet engine backed by a Bowler 4L60E transmission turning a Winters quick-change rear end.
