Headed to the Fall Auction with No Reserve is this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Custom Coupe.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO CUSTOM COUPE_front34There are few cars with a following as devoted as Chevrolet’s Camaro, and even fewer that can match the Camaro’s on-road charisma. Chevy’s entry into the pony car wars charged head-on, ready to battle against Ford’s Mustang. The Camaro’s 1967 introduction was met with great fanfare. In a now infamous press briefing, then Chevrolet general manager Pete Estes was asked the meaning of the Camaro name. His candid response: “A small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs.” Needless to say, the near five-decades-long rivalry has become an absolute staple of automotive lore, one that continues today. Since that late-60s introduction, the Camaro has gone on to be a knockout success, with well over 5 million produced and sold across six distinctive generations.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO CUSTOM COUPE_sideThe Camaro is an American motoring icon, recognized the world over for its unmatched style and performance. Chevy’s emblematic pony car found itself just at home cruising down Woodward Avenue, or racing up Bathurst’s Mount Panorama. Regardless of continent or region, everyone has a Camaro story. Part of that story is that the Camaro has long been the perfect platform for customization. Akin to its Mustang rival, a goodly part of the allure of Chevy’s pony car is the ability to make it one’s own. Adding a personal touch, embellishing either style or performance is as close as the nearest auto parts store.

The world of Resto-Mods takes on this theme with few imposed limits. And what better candidate to customize than the venerable first-generation Camaro; in particular the 1969 model year. This ’69 Camaro is a more muscular, curvaceous and menacing evolution of its first-gen predecessors. Couple that with an all-business PPG black finish and a snarling exhaust note, and the result is downright sinister. This stunning No Reserve Resto-Mod offered at the Barrett-Jackson Fall Auction, October 22-24 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, sports both – and much more.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO CUSTOM COUPE_EngineCombining classic beauty with modern performance, this 1969 Camaro Resto-Mod was the beneficiary of a complete, no-expense-spared, nut-and-bolt restoration, with custom-built upgrades reflecting the latest in modern technology. Under the striped cowl hood sits an all-new GM Performance direct-injected LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine producing a dyno-proven 442hp at the rear wheels, with 438 ft/lbs of torque. The fifth-generation small block is mated to a new TREMEC 5-speed manual transmission, as well as a custom-built Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.55 gears and posi-traction.

Channeling all that muscle and putting power to pavement are a set of five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich rubber. A fully adjustable RideTech coilover suspension keeps the updated muscle car pliant around any turn. Stopping power comes courtesy of a Wilwood disc brake system, with drilled and slotted rotors as well as all new subframe connectors that provide ample structural rigidity.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO CUSTOM COUPE_interiorThe professionally built Camaro was completed just months ago, in the first half of 2020. Starting with a literal rotisserie of quality, this gorgeous F-body looks as nice underneath as it does on top. The black exterior is beautifully contrasted by a white interior with seats featuring houndstooth insets, while a new dashboard, door panels, headliner and dark carpet round out the look. Completing the interior bits is a new wiring harness and modern electronics, including a full electronic gauge set, LED lighting, Detroit Speed electric headlight door system, electric E-Brake system and Vintage Air.

The custom-made, show-quality exhaust features a MagnaFlow stainless high-performance muffler set that sounds impolite, but not obnoxious. The custom-fabricated aluminum radiator lines and cold-air intake are a wonderful combination of form and function. A one-off painted engine cover and fabricated radiator cover truly set this car apart and speak to the attention to detail across this high-end and tasteful build.

This ’69 Camaro is magnificent example of the breed – the chops of the original overlaid with a unique pairing of style and performance. It’ll bring smiles and thumbs up from Detroit, and surely give pause to a few Mustangs as well.
