ONGOING GENEROSITY: Barrett-Jackson ties reach far beyond the auction block

In January 2013, a hot country music group known as the Zac Brown Band consigned a pair of vintage custom Indian Chief motorcycles to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. The sale of the motorcycles was to raise much-needed funds to design and construct Camp Southern Ground in Georgia. The passion project of the group’s founder and lead singer, Zac Brown, the camp will allow children with diverse abilities to learn in a healthy and organic environment.
The motorcycles were the first of a total of six vehicles to date that have crossed the Barrett-Jackson block to benefit Camp Southern Ground – bringing $1.87 million to the camp, which began construction of its first residential lodge in August 2017, on target to open for week-long summer sessions in the summer of 2018.

The pair of bikes was snapped up by Lou Hutchison, who had been coming to Barrett-Jackson auctions since 2010, right about the time Zac Brown had won the first of the group’s three Grammy awards – Best New Artist.
But Hutchison’s generosity – like that of so many big-hearted Barrett-Jackson bidders – extends way beyond the auction block.
In late July of 2017, Hutchison, along with his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Daniel Dilley, sponsored and hosted Zac Brown’s Exclusive Birthday Event at the Vehicle Vault in Parker, Colorado – an auto gallery and elite custom garage community owned by the Dilleys. The private fundraiser, which included a dinner, auction and performance by the Zac Brown Band, raised almost $1 million for Camp Southern Ground.
What is remarkable is that 30 of the 300 people attending the exclusive event and contributing to that amount have ties to Barrett-Jackson. Among them were Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson and his wife Carolyn (the company’s vice president of brand strategy), as well as longtime Barrett-Jackson customer Joe Riley, who revved up the crowd during the event’s auction. Riley is a big supporter of Camp Southern Ground, purchasing two vehicles to benefit the camp at the 2016 Palm Beach and Northeast Auctions.
Barrett-Jackson is honored to have played a part in bringing so many new supporters to such a worthy cause as Camp Southern Ground. The company and the Jackson family have a rich history in philanthropy and continue to support many deserving charities across the country.
