Herbie the Love Bug (Lot #703) motored across the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Palm Beach, selling for $128,700 – making it the highest-priced 1963 Beetle ever to sell at auction and beating the previous record it set at the 2015 Palm Beach Auction.
Barrett-Jackson’s 16th Annual Palm Beach Auction was the most successful ever, with record attendance, the largest number of registered bidders for the event and record auction sales results of $39.4 million. Nearly 700 collector cars were sold, including those from three impressive collections, highlighted by 145 vehicles from the John Staluppi Cars of Dreams Collection, which all sold at No Reserve.
According to data from Hi-Bid.com, a total of 13 new world record sales at public auction were set during the event, including seven from the Cars of Dreams Collection. Check out the gallery below to see which sales are now in the record books!
