1994 TOYOTA SUPRA – “FAST & FURIOUS” MOVIE CAR

Japanese car makers have given us some pretty incredible vehicles over the years. While Japanese Domestic Market, JDM, refers to vehicles only sold in Japan, over time the term has expanded to include all Japanese-made cars exported to other countries.

The 1990s are often thought of as JDM’s golden era. At the time, Japan’s economy was booming, and strict vehicle inspections led drivers to update their cars frequently. As a result, the focus was placed on innovation and allowed Japanese manufacturers to put their new technology and designs on the streets of Japan before the international market.

Looking over sales from 2019 to present at Barrett-Jackson auctions, ‘90s JDM holds strong with the sale of a 1994 Toyota Supra that was used in two “Fast & Furious” films ($550,000), a 1994 Toyota Supra Re-creation of the aforementioned car ($115,500), a 1997 Toyota Supra Anniversary Edition ($176,000), 1993 Toyota Supra Premier Edition Twin Turbo ($110,000) and a 1989 Nissan Skyline R32 once owned by Paul Walker ($100,100).

Love for JDM vehicles extends beyond the ‘90s, however. A 2012 Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition crossed the 2019 Scottsdale auction block for a spectacular $918,500. At the Palm Beach auction that year another 2012 Lexus LFA crossed the block for $352,000 followed by the sale of another 2012 Lexus LFA in 2020 for $440,000 during the Barrett-Jackson Fall Auction in Scottsdale.

Other top sales in recent years have included a 2021 Honda Civic Type R ($165,000), a 2016 Nissan GT-R NISMO ($156,200), a 2018 Acura NSX ($137,500) and a 2009 Nissan 370Z owned by Paul Walker and used in “Fast Five” ($105,600).
