LOT #1406 – 2018 PORSCHE 911 GT2 RS – NO RESERVE

Officially introduced alongside the road-going 911 Turbo S at the 2017 edition of the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed, the hard-core, track-focused 911 GT2 RS debuted as the fastest vehicle in Porsche’s 991-generation 911 model range. It was also the priciest, carrying a $294,250 MSRP. More than worthy of Porsche’s hallowed “RS” (RennSport or Racing) designation, the 911 GT2 RS was the lightest and best-performing Turbo model ever to be unleashed from Stuttgart.

261218_Side_ProfileAn unquestionably formidable machine on all counts, the twin-turbocharged 911 GT2 RS features an uprated 700-horsepower, 3.8-liter flat-6 engine derived from that of the 991 Turbo, with peak power delivered at 7,000 engine revolutions. Its specifications are that of full-competition cars, including specific pistons, a modified crankcase, reworked cooling system and larger turbochargers. Revised rear-fender ducts ram 27% greater airflow to the intercoolers.

This model’s bodywork is a competition-inspired technological masterpiece throughout, with the 911 GT2 RS featuring a magnesium roof section, carbon fiber for the front lid, front and rear fenders, and engine cover; polyurethane front and rear aprons; polycarbonate side and rear windows; and a titanium exhaust system. An outrageous, pedestal-mounted rear wing maximizes downforce at high speeds. Weighing just 3,241 pounds with fluids, this 4-wheeled pugilist was also available with the optional Weissach Package, named in homage to Porsche’s test track, shedding 30 more pounds with magnesium wheels and even-lighter-weight underpinnings.

261218_Rear_3-4Cutting-edge engineering wizardry maximizes 911 GT2 RS performance in the finest Porsche tradition. Beginning with Porsche’s 7-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox/rear transaxle, the 911 GT2 RS includes rear-axle steering, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM), as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), including an electronically controlled, fully variable locking rear differential. A manual gearbox was not offered by the factory for the 911 GT2 RS, and for that matter, isn’t necessary when the dual-clutch PDK unit handles gear changes measurably quicker than even the finest drivers could with a manual transmission.

According to Porsche, the 911 GT2 RS delivers supercar-worthy performance, including a 340 km/h (211.266 mph) top speed. Blinding acceleration includes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 2.7 seconds and 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) requires just 1.5 seconds. The factory also claims that the 911 GT2 RS is capable of covering the quarter-mile in just 10.5 seconds, formerly the domain of purpose-modified drag cars. Roadholding and braking are equally brilliant with stiffer underpinnings, lightweight interior appointments and enlarged 4-wheel disc brakes.

261218_Misc_6bbc352f-d218-4db7-a3cd-fff7c66152c8Predictably, the 911 GT2 RS was an eagerly awaited marquee attraction of the 2017 Xbox E3 event, coinciding with the launch of the Forza Motorsport 7 video game, with the new Porsche serving as a cover car and playable vehicle. On the track, lap records fell to the 911 GT2 RS, most notably at the Nürburgring’s challenging Nordschleife circuit – first in September 2017, and again on October 25, 2018, when Porsche test driver Lars Kern reclaimed the lap record for Porsche from archrival Lamborghini.

Production along a limited run of just 1,000 examples of the GT2 RS was projected by Porsche, ensuring the model’s instant and future collectability and desirability. Electrifying in red and black livery and clearly benefiting from garage storage and regular servicing, this one-owner 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 offered in Scottsdale is in virtually new condition with delivery miles, extremely limited usage and a clean CARFAX vehicle-history report. Sporting the optional $18,000 lightweight Weissach Package delivering ultimate performance, this car represents one of the best-performing and most desirable road/track models ever offered by Porsche.

Sure to captivate all onlookers, this 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach Edition is but one of the headline consignments for the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction at WestWorld, January 21-29, 2023. Register to bid today for your chance to experience the action and bring home this unrivalled example of Porsche’s dual-purpose, road and track legend today.
