The excitement has been building all week – and what a finish it was! Iconic vehicles from the world of pop culture, sleek supercars, cool customs and classics all paraded across the block as car enthusiasts watched either on live international television or in person at the well-received new site layout, all under one roof at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
The 1976 AMC Pacer (Lot #608) from the 1992 movie “Wayne’s World” set a new world record when it sold for $37,400.
The thrills started right out of the gate when the collector cars began to roll across the block. Proving the significance of pop culture and provenance, a much-talked-about 1976 AMC Pacer (Lot #608) from the 1992 movie “Wayne’s World” shattered records when it sold for an astonishing $37,400. Later in the day, a pair of 1966 Mustangs (Lot #682 and Lot #682.1) customized by the legendary George Barris for Sonny and Cher – part of the Tammy Allen Collection – sold as a pair for $126,500.
Collector cars in the spotlight today included the crème de la crème of the Tammy Allen Collection and six fine offerings from the Charlie Thomas Collection – a taste of the 140 Thomas cars headed for the 2017 Scottsdale Auction. Of the more than 200 vehicles making their way across the auction block today, two in particular really brought the house down: a 1967 Ford Shelby GT500SE Super Snake (Lot #741) that sold for $275,000 and an original, unrestored 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot #749), which went to its new home for $357,500.
A 2016 Indian Chief Jack Daniel’s 150th Anniversary motorcycle (Lot #3002) sold for $150,000 to benefit Operation Ride Home.
Always creating poignant moments in the auction arena, three vehicles were sold for charitable causes on Saturday, with 100 percent of the hammer price going directly to several worthy organizations. The first, a beautiful 2016 Indian Chief Jack Daniel’s 150th Anniversary motorcycle (Lot #3002) sold for $150,000 to benefit Operation Ride Home, which assists active-duty U.S. military personnel in traveling home to visit their families.
The entire winning bid of $150,000 – plus an additional $100,000 donation from businessman and philanthropist Brett Torino – for Lot #3003, a special one-of-one 2017 Shelby Mustang created just for this event, went to the Las Vegas-based Grant A Gift Autism Foundation, which helps children, youth and their families fight autism by providing diagnostic and treatment funding, support services, vocational training, transition planning, and education.
More than 300 authentic pieces of automobilia crossed the block during the 2016 Las Vegas Auction.
Camp Southern Ground, the passion project of Grammy Award-winning artist and custom truck enthusiast Zac Brown, was the recipient of $250,000 from the sale of an incredible 2015 Ram 2500 Commando Tactical Edition truck (Lot #3004). The bespoke beast was meticulously detailed by Brown himself and brought to life by the artisans at Zac Brown Customs.
Each morning of a Barrett-Jackson auction always begins with the sale of some incredible automotive memorabilia, also known as automobilia. This year’s Las Vegas auction saw more than 300 authentic items cross the block and was the most successful automobilia auction (outside of the nine-day Scottsdale auction) to date. From pedal cars and gas pumps to jukeboxes and dealership signs, the beautifully restored items were a big hit with the bidders. The category that won the day was unquestionably neon signs, with the brightly colored pieces of nostalgia snagging the top five sales honors. The top seller was Lot #6396, a 1950s Ford A-1 Used Cars and Trucks double-sided neon porcelain dealership sign, which brought in $39,200.
