SUPER SATURDAY AT BARRETT-JACKSON: 2017 Northeast Auction comes to a close

The final Saturday at every Barrett-Jackson auction is always something special, when the most exciting and valuable pieces of automobilia and pristine collector cars cross the block in an arena brimming with enthusiastic bidders, consignors and fans. The scene on the last day of the 2nd Annual Northeast Auction in Connecticut certainly lived up to that promise.
Among the top-selling automobilia today was a stunning 1920s Tokheim visible gas pump restored and customized in Mobilgas regalia by McLaren Classic Restorations (Lot #7386.1), which brought in $21,850.
Enthusiasts streamed into the Behind The Hobby Collector Car Symposiums this morning (one of which featured “Overhaulin’” and “Barrett-Jackson Live” star Chris Jacobs), spent hours gazing at the auction cars, shopping and checking out the sponsor displays in the Showcase Pavilion, and getting the ride of their life at the heart-stopping Ride ’N Drives and Thrill Rides.
A number of familiar faces were among those wanting in on the action, including F1 driver Santino Ferrucci, fashion designer Robert Stock (co-founder of the Robert Graham fashion brand), world champion drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr., Dennis Collins of Collins Bros Jeep and Wayne Carini of “Chasing Classic Cars.”
Over 130 more pieces of automobilia crossed the block this morning, with gas pumps and neon signs again dominating the event. The top seller of the day was a Polly Oil restored service station fuel island with two original Bennett model #966 gas pumps (Lot #7387). Hailing from the mid-1950s, this exquisite piece sold for $24,725. A 1958 Mobil Oil service station Pegasus sign (Lot #7397.1) was the highest-selling neon sign today, going home for $19,550.
Another “car for a cause” crossed the auction block today – the world’s only life-sized Hot Wheels Transit Connect (Lot #3002). Donated by Ford Motor Company, the highly customized vehicle includes tool storage, a 55″ television screen, two 18″ tablets in the rear doors and custom Recaro seats. Two Hot Wheels Orange tracks are even recessed in the bed, forming a drag strip right down the center of the van. The entire hammer price of $50,000 goes to the Darrell Gwynn Quality of Life Chapter of The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.
The star attractions today, though, were the nearly 200 beautiful collector cars shining under the spotlights of the Barrett-Jackson block. Among the notable top sales were a 2017 Ferrari 488 Spider (Lot #657), coming in as the highest sale of the day at $434,500, along with a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot #709) at $407,000, a 1958 Dual-Ghia Convertible (Lot #699) at $269,500 and a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 (Lot #706) at $231,000. Two more world records were set at today’s auction: the $114,400 sale of a 1993 Land Rover Defender 110 (Lot #659), and a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom Pickup (Lot #714) that sold for $38,500.
