LOT #1405.1 – 1989 FERRARI F40 – $2,750,000
There’s a reason Saturday is super at every Barrett-Jackson auction. From the moment gates opened on Day 8 of Barrett-Jackson’s 2023 Scottsdale Auction, tens of thousands of fans were treated to one of the greatest automotive lifestyle events in the world — and there was no shortage of supercharged thrills and amazing automobiles!
An unparalleled docket of sports cars, Resto-Mods, celebrity-owned muscle cars and supercars crossed the world-famous block on Saturday. Lot #1390, a 2020 Ford GT Carbon Series, was the first vehicle to reach — and surpass — the million-dollar mark, selling for $1,320,000.
Sales continued to reach for the stars, with additional showstoppers joining the million-dollar-plus club: Lot #1405.1, a 1989 Ferrari F40 sold for $2,750,000; Lot #1405, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT for $1,595,000; and a 2019 FORD GT sold for $1,320,000.
The 1966 Shelby Group II Mustang that was built for Ken Miles (Lot #1396) sold for $770,000, as did a Jeff Hayes-built 1967 Chevrolet Corvette custom convertible (Lot #1367) and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (Lot #1353). Other top sales included Lot #1382, a 2012 Lexus LFA, which sold for $748,000; Lot #1391, a 2021 Ferrari SF90 ($742,500); Lot #1407, a 2019 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ ($671,000); Lot #1393, a 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo ($605,000); Lot #1400, a 1970 Plymouth HEMI Superbird ($605,000); and Lot #1399, a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 ($605,000).
The adrenaline-fueled action reached a fever pitch as fierce bidding pushed the sale of Lot #3002, the first retail production 2024 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1, VIN 001, to $500,000 — all for a great cause, with 100% of the hammer price benefiting Tread Lightly!, a non-profit organization that educates people on how to recreate responsibly while adventuring in the outdoors with any type of motorized vehicle.
To mark the five-year anniversary of the Driven Hearts campaign, Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association (AHA) joined Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson and President Steve Davis on the podium following the sale of the GMC Hummer to accept a donation from Barrett-Jackson Charities. Created by Barrett-Jackson’s Chief Philanthropy Officer Carolyn Jackson, the Driven Hearts campaign has raised millions of dollars and incredible awareness for the American Heart Association.
Also selling for a good cause was Lot #3003, the late General Colin L. Powell’s 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, with 100% of its $200,000 hammer price benefiting America’s Promise Alliance, the organization General Powell founded and chaired for decades to help America’s youth. Powell’s son, Michael, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, joined Craig Jackson on the block to introduce the vehicle.
The last charity vehicle on Saturday night was Lot #3004, VIN 001 of the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang GT, which brought the hammer down on a final bid of $490,000 with an additional $50,000 donation from San Tan Ford and an additional $25,000 donated by Michelle Mauzy, noted philanthropist and longtime member of the Barrett-Jackson family, bringing the total to $565,000 with the entire amount benefiting JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
A highly anticipated moment on Saturday was the announcement of the Barrett-Jackson Cup winners. Nearly 50 incredible custom vehicles were hand-selected for the competition. Hot-rod builder Bobby Alloway and automobile designer and builder Troy Trepanier selected the Top 5 finalists and the Ultimate Best of Show winner. Taking the coveted and prestigious Ultimate Best in Show Award — and a $20,000 prize — was a 1969 Pontiac Firebird built by Troy Gudgel at BBT Fabrications and owned by Brad Sather. A 1964 Buick Riviera built by Cruzer’s Customs, LLC., received the People’s Choice Award, which was chosen by thousands of Barrett-Jackson’s fans who voted online at Cup.Barrett-Jackson.com.
The Automobilia Auction fueled the morning’s excitement and prepped the audience for the spirited bidding to come with hard-to-find pristine, colorful gas pumps, kiddie rides, marketing memorabilia and eye-catching neon signs. The day’s top seller was a 1942 17-foot Chris-Craft Special Runabout “Woody” boat bar (Lot #9484), which sold for $120,750; followed by a magnificent circa 1940s-50s Carriage Motors animated neon porcelain sign (Lot #9490.3) for $86,250 and a huge 1950s Woody Woodpecker porcelain with neon sign (Lot #9493) for $80,500.
When the last hammer of the day fell on Super Saturday, dozens of sales records were shattered and over 300 amazing vehicles went across the block. Auction action and excitement like this can only be found at Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions!
There’s still time to experience the magic, with more collector cars and authentic automobilia ready to cross the famous auction block on Sunday, the final day of the 2023 Scottsdale Auction.
